In this presentation, Dr. Yasmine Omar, Dr. Ramiro Salas, and Dr. Melissa Fasteau discuss the lessons from performing improvisational (improv) acting that can be adapted to improve the healthcare provider's communication and emotional intelligence. They also review data that supports the benefit of improv participation for patients suffering from various mental health disorders.

The series aims to improve clinical practice through critical appraisal of psychiatric research, the use of evidence-based treatment approaches, and the integration of multiple treatment modalities to enhance the quality of psychiatric care and improve patient outcomes.

At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:
- Define "improv" and explain the role of improv skills in improving clinician emotional intelligence, communication, and overall effectiveness.
- Delineate the intersection between improv theater and therapeutic goals in empirically supported therapies.
- Describe an intervention based on the foundation of improv – Playback Theatre.
- Apply Playback Theatre to the treatment of patients with symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Assess the effects of Playback Theatre on brain connectivity in relationship with clinical effects of traumatic events.
