Needs Statement

Faculty physicians and trainees in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics who are involved in patient care need to receive regular updates on guidelines and recent advances in the fields of internal medicine and pediatrics. The series aims to address gaps in the care of patients across the age spectrum, particularly of those who have chronic childhood illnesses and are transitioning to adult medical care.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Successfully transition care of IBD patients from pediatric to adult GI care
  • Recognize the factors involved in choosing appropriate medical therapy for IBD patients.
  • Learn the mechanism of action of newly approved medications for IBD.
  • Assess the utility of intestinal ultrasound in assessing disease activity in IBD patients.
