Listening Behavior Toolkit
Similar to other skills in medicine, listening to the patient is a technique that can be refined. Listening is a key driver in how the patient feels about their experience. In partnership with NRC Health, the Patient Experience Team has compiled evidence based best practices into a toolkit for Providers. These tools are designed to help you demonstrate to the patient that you are listening.
The Passport for Care®
Dr. David G. Poplack. Associate Director, Cancer and Hematology Centers Texas Children's Hospital introduces Passport for Care®, an interactive, web-based decision support tool that provides individualized, accurate, and timely health care information for long-term survivors of childhood cancer and their health care providers. This resource is available in two formats – for clinicians or cancer survivors – and can be accessed through a mobile app or an online platform in English and Spanish. CME credit is avaialble.
Hepatocellular Carcinoma Early Detection Screening (HES) Tool
Dr. Hashem El-Serag introduces a validated early detection tool for screening patients with cirrhosis, for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for purposes of reducing HCC-related mortality. Patients with cirrhosis are the primary target for surveillance as 80-90% of HCCs occur in this population. This screening tool employs an algorithm using commonly followed data elements to estimate risk and indications for more personalized follow-up.
Consultagene: Advancing Genetic Health
Consultagene is a virtual platform of integrated genetics and genomics services that is designed for use by referrers, clients, and providers. This platform allows easy access to a comprehensive suite of genetic and genomic services, including educational resources, genetic counseling, peer-to-peer consultation, and testing interpretation. Developed by the Department of Molecular and Human genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in partnership with Baylor Genetics, Consultagene represents a robust, interdisciplinary collaboration to effectively connect clients to the tools, resources, and team that can address their genetic health priorities.
Emergency Medical Services for Children Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC) and Pediatric Pandemic Network
Dr. Corrie E. Chumpitazi, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, introduces two programs that improve pediatric care delivery in everyday and emergency settings – the EEIC and the Pediatric Pandemic Network. The EEIC, which partners with the CCIT, leverages quality improvement science and innovative education approaches to empower clinicians, patients, families, and community organizations in supporting the care of children. The Pediatric Pandemic Network is a new, multi-institutional initiative to help clinicians, responders, and communities support children and their families during every day and times of crises.
Advancing Educational Resources in Pediatric Echocardiography (PedEcho)
Dr. Joshua Kailin, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics-Cardiology, introduces PedEcho, an online training program on procedural and interpretive echocardiography, essential skillsets for diagnosing and tracking heart disease in children. Although echocardiography is a common tool and used on children of all ages (including fetuses and newborns), training in its process and interpretation is complex. PedEcho is a premier learning resource that offers online modules, a comprehensive imaging database, and an interactive platform for reviewing echocardiographic examples to support learners in better identification of cardiac pathology.
