Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- List evidence-based medications for the general practice provider used to treat substance use disorders (SUD) in the long term.
- Describe the risks and benefits of SUD medications and how to monitor for their side effects in the primary care or inpatient setting.
- Discuss the use of SUD medication during transition to the outpatient setting from hospital discharge.
- Review safe and effective pain management related to the prescribing and monitoring of opioids and other controlled substances and best practices in communicating with patients regarding these prescriptions.
