Literature Review: An Assessment of Information Needs and Workflows for Emergency Service Providers and Caregivers of Children with Medical Complexity

Needs Statement

Faculty, fellows, and residents in pediatric emergency medicine need to receive regular updates on recent advances in the emergency care of children. With a unique scope of practice, pediatric emergency medicine encompasses various general and subspecialty disciplines, including pediatrics, surgery, and critical care. Experts in these disciplines will review professional guidelines and research results related to the stabilization, management, and treatment of acutely ill and injured children as an impetus for discussion. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote the implementation of evidence-based guidelines in clinical practice, enhance the quality of pediatric emergency care, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Characterize the potential role of emergency information forms for children with medical complexity.
• Recognize the limitations in recruiting rural participants.
• Explain the importance of stakeholder and informant selection for focus groups.
• Describe the limitations of studies that involve focus groups.
• Identify themes from qualitative data.
