“Help! I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up!” Geriatric Pelvic Ring Injuries: Management and Controversies

Needs Statement

Orthopedic surgeons, fellows, residents, medical students, and healthcare professionals in related disciplines need to receive regular updates on treatment guidelines and advances in orthopedic research. Controversial topics and pitfalls in the practice of orthopedics will be used as an impetus for discussion. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, disseminate evidence-based orthopedic practices, resolve systems-based care issues, enhance the quality of orthopedic care, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Describe how geriatric pelvic ring fractures are a distinct clinical entity.
• Identify characteristics of unstable fractures.
• Apply a new framework for triaging and treating these injuries.
