In this three-part presentation, graduating chief residents Dr. Megan Vu, Dr. Katherine Baugh, and Dr. Nader Zamani share their experiences and lessons learned with their audience of fellow trainees and their mentoring faculty. Dr. Vu's presentation is "The Warrior Within: Lessons from the Operating Room and Beyond." Dr. Baugh's presentation is "Patient or Customer." Finally, Dr. Zamani's presentation is "Rescuing the Surgeon-Patient Relationship."

Needs Statement
General, plastic, thoracic, vascular, cardiothoracic, abdominal transplantation and surgical oncology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on novel therapies, as well as advances in surgical care and clinical practices that will aid them in treating a variety of surgical procedures to increase the patient care experience and improve practice efficiency.

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- Discuss how the internet is being used by patients to screen and choose physcians.
- Identify the trends for improving patient satisfaction and the effects of such protocols.
- Recognize how the utilization of patient satisfaction surveys, such as the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems and the Press Ganey surveys, have affected physician practices and hospitals reimbursement.
"The Warrior Within: Lessons from the Operating Room and Beyond"
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- Define the way of the warrior in the context of decisiveness, self-examination, and wholeness.
- Recognize where the pathways of a surgeon and those of a warrior intersect.
- Identify warriors in real-life healthcare scenarios.
"Rescuing the Surgeon-Patient Relationship"
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- Define traditional models of the physician-patient relationship.
- Discuss current challenges in the surgeon-patient relationship.
- Identify methods to improve the surgeon-patient relationship.
