This Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training and Research Grand Rounds session was held in collaboration with the Department of Medicine Grand Rounds. In this presentation, Dr. Vivian Pinn discusses her experiences as a woman and leader in academic medicine. She highlights the progress that women have made in regard to leadership positions, and offers insight on addressing the barriers and challenges still impeding women in medicine today.

Needs Statement
Physicians, residents, fellows, medical students and other healthcare providers across practice areas encounter health care equity issues such as health disparities,social determinants of health, cultural/linguistic competencies, and social justice. The series aims to broaden the awareness of learners in these topic areas provide strategies to address these issues as they arise.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Review the areas of progress for women in academic medicine.
- Define the major barriers for women in reaching leadership positions in academic medicine and relate those to intersectionality in academic careers.
- Identify institutional and personal interventions to improve the representation of women in academic leadership positions and determine how to implement them with an understanding of intersectionality.
