Needs Statement

Primary care physicians, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other primary care providers need to receive regular updates on evidence-based guidelines, medication standards, and research advances in the field of primary care. The series serves as a platform to discuss collaborative practice issues such as integrated care, subspecialty referrals, and process improvement of chronic, acute, and preventive care. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, improve their clinical skills and competencies, enhance the quality of primary care, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • List the current technologies available for breast cancer.
  • Explain how an earlier diagnosis leads to a better prognosis.
  • Recognize that the 5-year relative survival for cancer localized to the breast is 99%
  • Discuss the current screening guidelines for mammography, focusing on the American Cancer Society/American College of Radiology recommendation to begin at age 40.
