Transgender and Nonbinary Healthcare and Equity

Needs Statement

Physicians, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals need to be regularly updated on issues related to social justice and equity. The series will examine how the issues intersect with the delivery of healthcare. It will also complement patient care education and training by focusing on the social and cultural context in which patients live and are served.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Identify health disparities and systemic barriers of oppression specific to transgender and non-binary gender populations.
• Apply their knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, affirming patient care to transgender and non-binary gender populations.
• Develop strategies for advocacy and upstander behaviors to eliminate individual or systemic barriers within communities and the healthcare system experienced by transgender and non-binary gender populations.

Baylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Baylor College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

BCM does not view the existence of financial relationships with commercial interests as implying bias or decreasing the value of a presentation. It is up to participants to determine whether the relationships influence the activity faculty with regard to exposition or conclusions. If at any time during this activity you feel that there has been commercial/promotional bias, notify the Activity Director or Activity Coordinator. Please answer the questions about balance and objectivity in the activity evaluation candidly.
