This presentation is Part 2 of a 3-part series created by a collaboration of CommonSpirit Health Physician Enterprise and Baylor College of Medicine. Led by Dr. Carol Mangione, Chairperson of the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), this session will provide a journey on the evolution of national guidelines for prevention across cancer screenings, cardiovascular disease, and more. The session will offer insights into the processes of USPSTF for building consensus based on clinical data and evidence, and the ways in which experiences of patients and front-line clinicians influences evolution of guidelines.

The goal of this clinical symposium is to promote and facilitate the use of evidence-based decision making, engage in continuous quality improvement and learning, and strive for excellence in academic research across a broad range of primary care and specialty care topics. Nationally renowned thought leaders and academic experts will share current best practices and discuss clinical developments that enhance the clinical practice for our Physician Enterprise clinician teams across our ministry.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be able to:
- Identify the best practices for primary prevention based on the recommendations of United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) in areas including cancer screening and cardiovascular disease risk mitigation
- Illustrate how the USPSTF considers health equity and engages diverse communities at each step of the process as they define and create evidence-based care guidance, including topic nomination, research plan, evidence review, developing recommendation, disseminating the recommendation
