Needs Statement

Physicians and advanced practice providers in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and other medical specialties need to receive regular updates on clinical best practices. Newly published, clinically relevant, evidence-based, peer-reviewed research articles will be used as an impetus for discussion. The series aims to accelerate the practice of evidence-based medicine across the physician enterprise to expand clinical knowledge, enhance the quality of care, and improve patient outcomes. The series also aims to disseminate disease-specific clinical best practices and to encourage networking and collaboration within and across medical specialties.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify best practices relating to approaches to management of obesity and strategies for the treatment of weight recidivism.
  • Integrate strategies for better recognition of the indications for weight loss surgery.
  • Review medications for obesity approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
  • Recognize the importance of reviewing and discussing new clinical evidence in the context of improving care delivery and patient outcomes.
