Hyperthyroidism: Focus on Clinical Manifestations and Diagnosis

Needs Statement

The Spotlight series features health practitioners from a wide array of fields sharing their experience and expertise to provide care to patients at Baylor College of Medicine. The purpose of this series is to raise awareness on important health conditions commonly found within the patient population. Each session will aim to advance clinical knowledge, enhance the quality of patient care, and improve treatment outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

• Discuss the definition and prevalence of Hyperthyroidism.
• Recognize the clinical manifestations of hyperthyroidism- especially Graves’s disease that causes orbitopathy and dermatopathy.
• Summarize how diagnostic tests are used to identify the cause of hyperthyroidism.
