This Anesthesiology Grand Rounds session will take place on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 6:30 a.m. Attendance will be available virtually through Zoom.

Needs Statement

Anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, certified anesthesiology assistants, anesthesiology fellows and residents, and student registered nurse anesthetists need to receive regular updates on new advances in anesthesiology research and technologies. Expert presentations on cutting-edge anesthesiology topics will be used as an impetus for discussion. The aim of the series is to expand clinical knowledge, improve competence, enhance the quality of anesthesiology care, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of interdisciplinary planning to the safe execution of medically challenging anesthetics.
  • List a differential diagnosis for hypotension.
  • Recognize the preoperative risks associated with carcinoid tumor.
  • Explain the importance of MRI-compatible spinal cord stimulators.
  • Describe the characteristics of moyamoya disease.
  • Demonstrate greater understanding of the pathophysiology of a CO2 embolism.
  • Identify signs of malfunction in a spinal cord stimulator.
