Anesthesiology Grand Rounds (January 24, 2024)

Needs Statement

Anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, student nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, certified anesthesiology assistants, and anesthesiology fellows, residents, and medical students need to receive regular updates on new advances in anesthesiology research and technologies. Expert presentations on cutting-edge anesthesiology topics will be used as an impetus for discussion. The aim of the series is to expand clinical knowledge, improve competence, enhance the quality of anesthesiology care, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

Complications of Neuraxial Anesthesia

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Describe the role of neuraxial anesthesia and its types.
• List the complications of neuraxial anesthesia.
• Recognize the common diagnostic and treatment modalities for neuraxial complications.

Anesthesiology in Global Health

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Recognize the impact of global health opportunities in anesthesiology training.
• Discuss the barriers that exist for the formation of global health partnerships.
• Summarize the importance of ultrasonography to the practice of anesthesiology in global health.

Sleeping and Anesthesia: The Nuances of Propofol Associated Fate

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Describe the difference between sleep and anesthesia.
• Summarize the potential overlap between sleep, anesthesia, community-acquired pneumonia, and death.
• Discuss some of the ways that anesthesia contributes to or detracts from natural sleep.

It is up to participants to determine whether the relationships influence the activity faculty with regard to exposition or conclusions.
