CME Requirements
Every two years, the Vermont Board of Medical Practice requires 30 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Vermont Topics Requirements
For all renewing physicians:
≥ 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ in Hospice or Palliative Care, Pain Management, or Prescribing of Controlled Substances.
For Physicians who prescribe controlled substances (ie, hold a DEA number):
≥ 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ in Controlled Substances Prescribing.
Mandatory topics to be covered include:
Abuse and diversion.
Safe use, and appropriate storage and disposal of controlled substances.
Appropriate use of the Vermont Prescription Monitoring System.
Risk assessment for abuse or addiction.
Pharmacological and nonpharmacological alternatives to opioids for managing pain.
Medication tapering and cessation of the use of controlled substances.
Relevant State and federal laws and regulations concerning the prescription of opioid controlled substances.
