CME Requirements
Every two years, the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners requires 100 CME credits. there must be a minimum of 40 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and a maximum of 60 may be Category 2.
New Jersey Topics Requirements
Physicians in New Jersey must meet the following state-specific CME requirements:
End-of-Life Care: 2 credits
Prescription Opioid Drugs: 1 credit covering responsible prescribing practices, opioid alternatives for pain management, and the risks/signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion.
Cultural Competency (One-Time Requirement): 6 credits, covering topics such as:
Definitions of cultural competence, race, ethnicity, and self-assessment tools
Understanding traditions and beliefs of diverse patient populations
The impact of stereotyping on medical decision-making
Strategies to identify and address healthcare disparities
Techniques to enhance cross-cultural communication
