Needs Statement

Family Medicine physicians, residents, medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and behavioral therapists need to receive regular updates on a wide range of topics related to the spectrum of human diseases encountered in the field. The aim of the series is to address evolving standards in the field by implementing evidence-based practice recommendations and by facilitating optimal care quality in settings with scant resources.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Define primary hyperparathyroidism and detail the varied clinical manifestations of the disease.
  • Detail the approach to diagnosing hyperparathyroidism, including relevant laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Recognize the importance of early detection and diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism.
  • Review current guidelines and best practices for managing primary hyperparathyroidism.
  • Discuss both medical and surgical management options, including the criteria for surgery and potential risks and benefit.
