Needs Statement
Pulmonary critical care physicians and fellows, internal medicine residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare providers in related disciplines need to receive regular updates on advances in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. A multi-disciplinary approach and expert opinion will be used to evaluate cases of common and complex pulmonary and sleep disorders. The aim of the series is to expand clinical knowledge, disseminate evidence-based research findings, promote clinical best practices, enhance the quality of pulmonary and critical care, and improve patient outcomes.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- Recognize the significance of adaptive immunity in the development of sarcoidosis granulomas.
- Explain how PD-1 upregulation in CD4 T cells promotes lung fibrosis.
- Clarify how SHP2 activity in CD8 T cells promotes sarcoidosis severity.
- Describe the CD8 T cell subpopulation that induces profibrotic changes in the lungs.
