Needs Statement

Physicians, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurses, and advanced nurse practitioners in Pediatrics, Obstetrics-Gynecology, or Neonatology need to receive regular updates about evidence-based practices and advances in the field of perinatal medicine and maternal-fetal medicine. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners with regard to medical conditions that can affect both mother and child using a multi-disciplinary focus. The series also aims to improve the clinical skills and competencies of learners and their ability to evaluate if treatment recommendations are relevant and evidence-based and would enhance the quality of care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Describe the history and recent trends of syphilis.
  • Discuss the clinical course of primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary syphilis.
  • Review the diagnostic algorithms and recommended treatment, including special considerations during pregnancy.
