Needs Statement
Physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, and nurse practitioners in a pediatric or neonatology specialty involved in the care of neonates use this conference as a venue to present their cases for review and discussion with an ethicist to resolve outstanding care issues and to form an ethical basis for decisions. The series also aims to increase knowledge of the learners on the role of ethics in clinical decision-making and to encourage learners to apply ethical principles in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and improve patient outcomes.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
- Define ethical principles that are important to consider when providing clinical care for patients.
- Evaluate cases that may present ethical dilemmas and how ethical principles may be used to work through them.
- Identify how Texas Children’s Hospital professionals can help optimize care for immigrant children from an ethical perspective.
