This Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery Grand Rounds event will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 7:00 A.M. Attendance for this grand rounds event will only be available through Zoom. Topics for this series of presentations given by general surgery residents include: "Leakage after Needle Catheter Jejunostomy Tube Placement," "Intraoperative Hemorrhage," and "Bladder Injury during Ostomy Takedown."

Needs Statement

General, plastic, thoracic, vascular, cardiothoracic, abdominal transplantation and surgical oncology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on novel therapies, as well as advances in surgical care and clinical practices that will aid them in treating a variety of surgical procedures to increase the patient care experience and improve practice efficiency.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the technical aspects of confirming tube placement.
  • Discuss the importance of viewing images before undertaking a surgical procedure.
  • Explain situational awareness and its importance in recognizing complications.
