Needs Statement

General, plastic, thoracic, vascular, cardiothoracic, abdominal transplantation and surgical oncology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on novel therapies, as well as advances in surgical care and clinical practices that will aid them in treating a variety of surgical procedures to increase the patient care experience and improve practice efficiency.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Describe key steps to developing clinically relevant, impactful research projects.
  • Discuss how these steps helped advance a project focused on determining whether fluoroquinolones promote aortic disease.
  • Review the newest scientific evidence about the risks of using fluoroquinolones in patients with aortic disease and explain the latest warnings that have been released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency in the European Union.
