2020: Annus Horribilis, or Annus Mirabilis?

Needs Statement

General, plastic, thoracic, vascular, cardiothoracic, abdominal transplantation and surgical oncology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on novel therapies, as well as advances in surgical care and clinical practices that will aid them in treating a variety of surgical procedures to increase the patient care experience and improve practice efficiency.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Review the ongoing challenges the surgical community faces to deliver surgical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Assess the impact of the pandemic on surgical training, both at the individual program level and from the perspective of program accreditation and surgeon certification.
• Recognize the multiple ways the COVID-19 pandemic has differentially affected vulnerable communities and explore their responsibilities as surgeons to address the inequities in their midst.

BCM does not view the existence of financial relationships with commercial interests as implying bias or decreasing the value of a presentation. It is up to participants to determine whether the relationships influence the activity faculty with regard to exposition or conclusions. If at any time during this activity you feel that there has been commercial/promotional bias, notify the Activity Director or Activity Coordinator. Please answer the questions about balance and objectivity in the activity evaluation candidly.
