In this annual William D. Seybold Distinguished Lectureship, Dr. Kelly Hunt discusses her laboratory and clinical work at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center identifying novel targets for breast cancer treatment. She shares her career path as a physician-scientist and encourages fellow surgeons to consider augmenting their clinical practice with translational research work.

Needs Statement

Novel technologies and procedures will be examined as means to improve the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions requiring surgical intervention. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, enhance surgical skills, increase surgical efficiency, disseminate surgical best practices, and improve surgical outcomes.

  • Review the addition of biologic markers to anatomic staging of breast cancer.
  • Discuss biologic markers in developing therapeutic strategies.
  • Describe how novel therapies have been translated from laboratory findings to clinical trials.
