Development of Acceptance Based Coping for Diabetes: A Community Health Worker-Delivered Program

In this presentation, Dr. Kathryn Kanzler discusses the prevalence and health outcome trends of type 2 diabetes in socioeconomically challenged patients. She highlights the causes of this health disparity and shares research findings about long-term effects of poorly-controlled type 2 diabetes. She also discusses the coping mechanisms that are counterproductive to good glycemic control and describes community outreach programs to help patients find acceptance in their diagnosis and improve their self-care and health outcomes.

The series will explore new models of multidisciplinary care in the field, especially as it relates to patients with cardiometabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote adherence to evidence-based guidelines, enhance the quality of endocrinology care, disseminate best clinical practices, and improve patient outcomes.
