Needs Statement

i2b2 stands for Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside (i2b2) Cohort Discovery System. Baylor College of Medicine has implemented i2b2 web-based application for BCM Faculty, Staff and Trainees. This allows users to explore for potential research study cohorts with the clinical data acquired from BCM's electronical health record systems (Epic). The purpose of this activity is to increase efficiency and effectiveness of utilizing i2b2 to improve the overall experience of initiating research topic of interest and analyzing data.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Utilize SlicerDicer and i2b2 systems and database to generate predictive, prescriptive data and research cohorts
  • Improve core datasets with derived and additional data to gain insight
  • Identify strategies from SlicerDicer/i2b2 workshops and SlicerDicer/i2b2 Self-Service Data Analytics Tool to refine searches, examine trends, drill down to line-level details quickly to find related records
