Exploring Hidden Patterns in White Matter Disease

Needs Statement

Physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students need to be regularly updated on advances in neurosurgery to manage patients with neurological disorders. Emerging discoveries in neurosurgical research and clinical practice impact patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and practice patterns. The series will address the latest evidence-based research and best practice recommendations and provide practical examples learners need to assess and integrate medical knowledge into clinical decision-making.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Review the heterogeneity in white matter hyperintensities (WMH) and advances in lesion quantification.
• Examine how data-driven approaches may be leveraged to identify distinct WMH spatial distribution patterns.
• Utilize imaging genetics to examine whether WMH lesion locations might represent different underlying
  pathologies.
• Develop strategies to critically influence cognitive deficits.
